Over 170 singers from choirs in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty will join with the Bay of Plenty Symphonia in September for four memorable performances of Haydn’s mighty Oratorio Creation, in Rotorua, Taupo, Thames and Hamilton.
This large, four centre, ‘tour’ has been organised by the Waikato / BOP Branch of the NZCF, as a way to connect the regions’ choirs through music and collaboration. The branch also presented similar performances of the Mozart Requiem in 2014 which was a huge success and they are delighted to be doing another one!
The performances will be conducted by David Squire, who, as well as having strong family ties to the Waikato, needs little introduction to those in the choral scene here in New Zealand! Musical Director of the New Zealand Youth Choir since 2011, he is also the Chair of the NZCF Association of Choral Directors, and Chorusmaster for the International Schools’ Choral Music Society.
We are also delighted to have Andrew Grenon (Tenor), Elizabeth Mandeno (Soprano) and James Harrison (Baritone) taking on the demanding roles of the soloists. All three have studied and performed extensively overseas before returning to New Zealand and now are in demand throughout the country both on the operatic stage and in performances.
Completing the music team is resident Bay of Plenty Symphonia Music Director Justus Rozemond, Peter Watts on Continuo Harpsichord, and Martin Griffiths on Continuo Cello.
We encourage those in and out of our region to join us for this wonderful celebration of choral music and community!
