In 1992 Saxcess made its debut in the Sydney Opera House at a concert staged by the Royal Australian Air Force to commemorate the battle of the Coral Sea. In 1994 the group travelled to Belgium for a three week tour in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the death of the founder of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax.
Since then Saxcess has undertaken numerous nation-wide tours for Creative New Zealand, Chamber Music New Zealand, and Arts On Tour. The group has also toured with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the New Zealand String Quartet, and premiered NZ composers’ works at international Saxophone Congresses in Australia and the USA.
Saxcess have also performed at all the major Arts Festivals around the country, and commissioned and premiered a total of 25 new works by prominent NZ composers. The ensemble is also proud to have given hundreds of schools and community outreach concerts.
Saxcess presents a kaleidoscope of music illustrating the fascinating story of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. The music covers Saxcess’s trademark diversity of styles, ranging from classical and baroque, to tango, cutting edge contemporary, and swing. The programme has wide appeal and is ideal for both large and small centres and will appeal to music lovers of all ages.
