Richard Aslett

Awastone River Haven, Mangaweka, proudly presents a summer afternoon of Music, Song and Dance with Richard Aslett and Steve Wright, and also some special guests…

After literally years of discussion, it is finally going to happen! A musical collaboration between singer/drummer/artist Richard Aslett and Wellington musician/actor Steve Wright. The pair first met in 2012 in Rotorua during the auditions for New Zealand’s Got Talent. Steve was singing and playing his guitar while being live broadcast on TV one’s breakfast show, when he first caught Richard’s attention.

The pair struck up an immediate friendship, and then over the years often talked of ‘doing something’ yet with Richard running his art gallery and other undertakings and Steve off playing gigs around the globe (in-between his acting commitments, he most recently appeared in Peter Jackson's Mortal Engines) the planets just did not seem to align… until now!

So, with Steve having recently returned from a US tour, and then being officially signed to ‘indie-on-air’ records (he is currently No: 1 on the National NZ Reverb-Nation Alternative charts) means that This Sunday 27 Jan, between around 4pm and to 7pm or so, you can now catch the pair during the middle set of an afternoon of music and merriment at Awastone River Haven in Mangaweka.

The early afternoons first set will begin in a leisurely manner around 4pm, with Richard Aslett and selected guests singing songs from his appearances on the most recent New Zealand’s Got Talent and the X-factor NZ TV shows, plus some other great popular songs from the 50’s right up to modern day!.

The second set starting sometime after 5pm will be a dynamic mix of mainly Steve Wright’s original, personally written songs, with Steve playing guitar and performing lead vocals and Richard joining him on backing vocals and percussion, in the form of maracas, clap sticks and darabuka drum.

Then, in the late afternoon/early evening, starting just after 6pm, the third and final set is your chance to shine, when the Karaoke machine is cranked up onto full volume to end the night with a laugh! There are fun hits galore, from all eras to choose from, yet if you are a slightly ‘serious’ Karaoke performer, simply bring your own backing-track on either CD, DVD or pen drive, and the stage is all yours!

With the doors opening at 3pm for yummy food and refreshing drinks from a fully stocked licenced bar (no BYO) be sure to be there early to claim your seat next to the awesome Papa cliffs of the mighty Rangitikei River. The music begins around 4 pm, running till around 7pm or so, yet with a full sized pool table, food, snacks and bar still available, why not stay on a while to mingle with friends old & new, until around 9pm afterwards….

This is an afternoon and evening not to miss!
