This course asks the big questions about the epidemic of mental illness and addiction currently crippling society. We won’t stop at the standard answers but will instead question the cultural myths and assumptions that get in the way of creating a society where well-being is the norm.

This is based on a course developed for the Sociology, Anthropology and Health Sciences Programme at the University of Canterbury, but will be offered in a community friendly form, with plenty of discussion and kai!

A book of friendly short readings will be available for purchase.

This course is offered in association with Awareness: Canterbury Action on Mental Health and Addiction and will be tutored by Dr. Anne Lorraine Scott (Sociology and Anthropology Dept; University of Canterbury, member of Awareness).

A book of friendly short readings will be available for purchase at a cost of $10.
