Connections in nature are abundant and vital, as our our connections with nature and with each other.
This year we are trialling something new; we are providing three hui around the Bay of Plenty region in the hopes to provide the regional environment network with more learning and networking opportunities right on your back doorstep, but feel free to travel to the other hui as well!
This hui in Rotorua is the second hui in the series, and follows the Katikati hui which is on Saturday 8th June. The final hui will be held in Whakatāne on Sunday 16th June.
We have a great line up of top notch speakers including:
Cam Speedy is a Wildlife Biologist and Director of Wildlife Management Associates
Effective pest control is more about understanding how many pests remain and what impact those survivors are having. A well designed pest control operation must therefore, think about a range of strategic issues – and attention to detail is always critical. Cam will share his ‘trappers eye’ and discuss the difference between a device that catches/kills and a device that simply gets ignored.
Bridget Palmer, HALO Whakatāne
Bridget will present on their ambitious goal to achieve predator eradication at a landscape scale within the Eastern Bay of Plenty without a fence. People and care groups are pivotal to the success of this goal.
Roanne Sutherland, Myrtle Rust Field Technician at Scion
Roanne will provide up to date information regarding myrtle rust and what to do if you find infected plants.
Lucas MacDonald. Biosecurity Officer at BOPRC
Lucas’ talk will cover catfish, aquatic weeds, and biosecurity hygiene around the lakes and water ways.
There will also be:
• seedling ID quiz (start studying now as there will be a great prize up for grabs)
• networking time to mingle, share ideas and connect
• back by popular demand the lovely Hollie from Mrs H catering will be providing her scrumptiously delicious and wholesome food for morning tea!
# Optional meeting with Cam Speedy to discuss your care groups predator control efforts, goals and to pick his brain for more trapping tips. This will take place once the Hui has finished at the 3rd Place Cafe.
Cost is $10 per person per hui towards catering. Multi-hui cost is $20 for all 3 hui
