Queenstown Lakes District Council and Glenorchy Community Association are co-hosting a Spatial Plan facilitated workshop to continue the conversation on growth in our district.

Growth is something that can enhance our community wellbeing if it’s planned for. We can make choices to grow well.

It is our goal, as part of the Lakes District community, to support positive change that benefits the wellbeing of the whole district both now and in the future.

Essentially a Spatial Plan is a community conversation about the future opportunities and challenges for residential, business and tourism growth, and how we futureproof and manage infrastructure. It’s a conversation we should, and have been asked to lead, to ensure that collectively we can be confident we’re delivering the best possible future for our community and the generations who will follow us.

It's a significant piece of work as it provides a strategic picture of our district, considering not only land use but how townships work together and interact with each other.

These workshops will be made up of three group activities designed to help communities build consensus on the future of their towns and settlements.

Activity One - a visioning exercise to understand what role the community sees their town playing in 30 years'
Activity Two – a scenario testing exercise looking at ways to grow well in the district

This will be your first opportunity to take part in this process. Once we’ve used the findings to develop a draft Spatial Plan, the intention is to run a formal public consultation process in Autumn 2020.
