Public Talk: Dr Kathryn Mannix On How to Live and Die Well

Mary Potter Hospice invites you to a free public talk by UK best-selling author and palliative care doctor, Kathryn Mannix. Dr Mannix will discuss a subject not often spoken about publicly or privately – death and dying.

Our understanding and expectations of death are regularly shaped by the dramatised experiences we see on screens, instead of the normal, gradual deaths that happen all the time in hospitals, hospices, and other places we rarely care to look.

Dr Mannix will speak to us about her amazing book With The End In Mind and her work. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

With insightful meditations on life, death, and the space between them, With The End In Mind describes the possibility of meeting death gently, with forethought and preparation, and shows the unexpected beauty, dignity, and profound humanity of life coming to an end.

About Dr Kathryn Mannix:
Starting in cancer care and changing career to become a pioneer of the new discipline of palliative medicine, Dr Kathryn Mannix has spent her medical career working with people who have incurable, advanced illnesses, and brings this wealth of experience to the task of helping others to navigate these conversations and decisions.

A leader in palliative medicine in the UK for over 30 years, her best-selling book With The End In Mind (shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize) sends a vital message to the living and answers the most urgent, intimate, and fascinating questions about the end-of-life process with touching honesty and humility.
