In late 1945 Bluegrass music was making its roots when the father of Bluegrass, Bill Munroe morphed the genre from the Old Timey music of Appalachia.
Jump forward to the present and Bluegrass still has a major influence in Americana music. The Port Hillbillies have formed a tight-knit group of friends and musicians who showcase all aspects of the genres, from the toe tapping recognisable standards to the more obscure songs. With Gary Elford on the guitar and bass, Justin Rogers on the mandolin and Steve Stern on the banjo this is surely a night not to be missed.
"The tunes were catchy, the harmonies solid and the musicianship shone through." - Christchurch Folk Music Club
