This October, the Tuia 250 commemorations will include a mass pōhiri for the Moananui Polynesian voyaging flotilla and our visiting dignitaries. And we want the entire community to be there.
Pōhiri 101 is a series of interactive and engaging workshops designed for absolute beginners to pōhiri. Find out:
- What pōhiri is all about and what to expect on the day.
- The roles of tangata whenua and manuhiri (the visitors).
- How you can be involved in a way that’s meaningful and comfortable.
- The answer to any question you have.
Presented by Antony Ruru from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, we’ll have a bunch of interactive tools and takeaway information, and we’ll learn a waiata (song) so that you can add your voice to the throng.
We’re holding workshops throughout September:
Thursday September 12 – Waikanae Surf Club, 5:30pm
Saturday September 14 – HB Williams Memorial Library, 10am
Thursday September 19 - Waikanae Surf Club, 5:30pm
Saturday September 21 – HB Williams Memorial Library, 10am
Saturday September 28 - HB Williams Memorial Library, 10am
Join one, or as many as you like! There’s no cost to attend.
Note this listing enables you to book for the HB Williams Memorial Library sessions. If you would like to book for the sessions at the Waikanae Surf Lifesaving Club, please search Pōhiri 101 at Waikanae Surf Lifesaving Club.
