It’s been 250 years since the first encounters between Māori and Europeans in Aotearoa. For this year’s Matariki performances, Horomona Horo and NZTrio explore this history by presenting a musical dialogue between two cultures.
New work by New Zealand composers: Dame Gillian Karawe Whitehead, Victoria Kelly, Martin Lodge, Richard Nunns, Jeremy Mayall, and Gareth Farr brings together a distinctive combination of taonga pūoro and piano trio to contemplate and invite discussion on how those first encounters have shaped our world – in the past, today, and in the years to come.
This concert is presented in association with Chamber Music New Zealand.
