Ever wondered what the stars in the night sky look like up close? Come along to celebrate Matariki with us on the 29 June and enjoy the dark skies of Wainuiomata Recreation Area. Rock up at any time between 7pm and 9:30pm. The Wellington Astronomical Society will be on hand to provide telescopes and help explain what you can see hanging out in the night sky. Pop your woolly hat on, make a hot drink (provided by us) and cuddle up to hear ruru, and maybe even a kiwi if you're lucky!

Lighting will be controlled around the telescopes so don’t forget a torch (preferably red light if you have one) and wear warm clothing. There will also be the option to take night sky photography so bring along your camera and tripod.

We will be running buses from the main car park to the upper dam throughout the night to save your legs for the exciting bit.

Spaces are limited so book your spot now!

If weather conditions are not great, the postponement day will be 13 July.
