Guest lecture with a NASA astronaut

The School of Science is proud to present an inspiring guest lecture from retired NASA astronaut, Dr Anna Fisher.

Dr Fisher is visiting the University as part of our recent success with three students (Rosemary Swears, Steve McCabe and Lynley St George), selected to undertake a NASA Internship via the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment.

Dr Fisher was one of the first female astronauts selected by NASA, and during her career she worked on the Space Shuttle Program, the International Space Station, and the Orion capsule that is currently being developed for NASA’s future Space Launch System. Additionally, she was a crew representative to support space shuttle integrated testing and payload testing. During the early phase of building the International Space Station, Fischer was the chief of the Space Station branch.

Dr Fisher will discuss her career, and why we need more women and girls studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects. With support from the US Embassy in New Zealand, her talk is also timed to highlight the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing.

Join us in the Academy on Thursday 31 October with light refreshments served from 5:15pm, and the lecture beginning at 5:45pm.

Please register your attendance via the website and bring your eticket with you on the night.
