The Mid-autumn festival is one of the most important celebrations on the Chinese calendar. Every year, in-line with the lunar calendar, communities come together to celebrate the year’s harvest. A full moon represents a complete, happy life, forming the basis of the events main delicacy; the mooncake.
On Friday 13 September, to celebrate the festival, SkyCity will unveil a giant mooncake. The cake will be made by the SkyCity Kitchen, and with a diameter of 1.5m is set to be the biggest mooncake in New Zealand history. The cake will follow tradition, with a red bean paste flavour.
The mooncake will be displayed at SkyCity Auckland Atrium, situated in the SkyCity Hotel lobby, from 10am for photo opportunities. Following this, a cutting ceremony at 12pm will take place, where complimentary slices will be available to the public, alongside Zealong tea.
