We are bringing back the popular wine game, options! New Zealand and Australia have a long history with this game; wine judges, winemakers, wine enthusiasts alike took part in it for decades.
There even used to be regional and national championships involving more than a hundred teams competing fiercely for the crown. Over the years, it passed out of the general drinking consciousness.
We feel that this is a pity, as a good wine options game is a rollicking good time for groups, wine geeks and the wine curious. In true Wine Sentience style, we are reintroducing it afresh, with new wines, regions and varieties.
Get a team of 3 or 4 friends together and make a group booking, or sign up as a free agent and we will pair you up with other mercenaries on the night. The format involves six wines with five questions each and three options of answers per question. In historical fashion, the questions will increase in difficulty as you go along.
Be hosted by Wellington's only Master of Wine, Stephen Wong and natural wine sommelier Caitlin Perlman for an entertaining evening of wine guessing.
