Elizabeth Smither’s pen never stops moving.

The multi-award-winning writer of many genres has just released her sixth novel, a sensual witty book that weaves together the stories of three strong women.

Loving Sylvie, the first draft written by hand, is an inter-generational tale that takes us into the richly imagined world of Sylvie, her mother Madeleine and grandmother Isobel.

Elizabeth tells their stories with warmth, humour and a poet’s eye for celebrating the minutiae of everyday life. She encompasses love affairs, rivalries and marriages that dance between Paris, Auckland, Melbourne and Paris.

In this literary session, this Taranaki treasure will romp through her life of words. She has published 18 collections of poetry, was poet laureate (2001-2003), and awarded the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement in Poetry in 2008. She has published five short story collections, plus journals and memoirs. In 2018, Night Horse, won the Ockham NZ Book Award for Poetry.
