Desray Lithgow

Lixin began piano lessons at the age of 4 with Neville Baird and later studied with Michael Endres and Richard Mapp. He was awarded the Irene Lassen Exhibition award from the Royal School of Music for his first diploma exam, passed his LRSM diploma with a high distinction, and attained a fellowship diploma certificate from Trinity College of London.

In 2016 Lixin was the winner at the Wallace National Junior Piano Competition. The following year he took out first prize in the overall Wallace National Piano Competition itself. Lixin plays with a maturity which belies his age.

He is a prodigy of the piano, showing remarkable promise. Going straight to number one on the RNZ Classical Charts on its first week of release in 2018, the self titled debut recording by Rattle of Lixin Zhang highlights the extraordinary talent of a remarkable young New Zealand musician.

The Waimakariri Community Arts Council are proud to present Lixin Zhang, in the Chamber Gallery of the Rangiora Library.
