John Davis was half of the widely acclaimed duo Folk Implosion and a central figure in the lo fi movement of the 90’s through his association as a solo artist with the Shrimper and Communion labels of California, spiritual cousins of NZ labels like Xpessway and Flying Nun. After a long absence in the aughts, he has returned with five releases since 2013, and has toured the United States and Europe twice.

This is the second to last show of an 11 city tour of New Zealand that moves onto Australia next. Material in the set will draw from albums like Dare To Be Surprised and Take a Look Inside from Folk Implosion’s catalogue, Blue Mountains and Leave Home from solo 90s work, and material
from 2013’s Spare Parts (co produced by Simon Joyner) and 2017’s political and psychedelic El Pulpo double album, which was named album of the day by Bandcamp and received a rare 9/10 rating from Magnet magazine.

Come on out for this intimate duo performance. Copies will be available of recent recordings including the just released instrumental project Gnawing on the Bone, which features cover art by Dunedin lo fi legend Alastair Galbraith.
