The stage of the Gaiety Hall will boast a huge line-up of the country’s top musicians and acclaimed international guests in performances of three stunning masterpieces. All three are in minor keys, producing moods that are dramatic, plaintive, tragic and melancholy, yet still with brightness and optimism shining through. Mozart’s famous G-Minor symphony is played here in a rarely heard version for piano, flute, violin and cello arranged by his most famous student, Johann Nepomuk Hummel; Vivaldi’s concerto for recorder, violin, oboe and bassoon interweaves virtuosity and majesty, and showcases all the mastery for which the composer of the Four Seasons is so cherished; and Brahms’s F-Minor Piano Quintet, symphonic in grandeur and epic in intensity, is such a mighty work it is sure to leave you breathless.
