Inspired by Nuit Blanc in Paris, White Night offers a unique opportunity to engage with artists, musicians and performers in an open and accessible way. For one night only, Napier’s art precinct will come alive after hours with all galleries open late, live performance, interactive events, installations and artists in residence. We invite you to take to the streets of Napier and see the city in a different way, through smoke screens, laser lights and large projections.

So, gather your friends and whānau from 6pm until late for a bite to eat from local restaurants and food trucks, and experience the diversity of art and culture in our local community. Here is a taste of what is to come:

We are delighted to present Pitch Black featuring Paddy Free and Michael Hodgson in a bespoke street show for this year’s White Night. Dub, downbeat, techno, drum’n’bass and cinematic ambience are all ingredients in an echo-drenched odyssey that will move the heart, mind and body, as Pitch Black’s distinctive sonic signature of deep analogue dub will combine with slinky beats to a backdrop of epic visuals projected onto Napier’s Cathedral.

Tennyson Gallery presents ceramic artist Angela Jordan. Wonder, delight and inspiration will be at the handcrafted exhibition at The Department of Curiosity. At Hohepa Creative Works, check out the weavers and colour your own beeswax candle. Explore, a wonderful installation by Susan Mabin at Creative Arts Napier; experience the MTG by night, enjoying the latest collections and exhibitions, or leave your mark on the community art installation and play with sound and light activated works.

Don’t miss Boyd Dunlop Gallery with one-off bespoke furniture as a collaboration with Little and Fox, a great collection of New Zealand contemporary art for sale including Pop Art prints inspired by Warhol and Lichtenstein. Quay Gallery will be showcasing painting, glass, ceramics, prints and jewellery. Rabbit Room will host Jo Blogg’s mixed media The Easy Way Out.

Make sure you take time to explore the streets and alleyways with Boom Factory’s laser show, pop-up street performances including the Human Project, Giant puppets, Dj Lorenzo, Napier Music Academy artists on the Zeal stage, have a dance at the Silent Disco, play in the art tardis or solve a mystery at Wardini Books.
