This will be an inspiring and productive workshop for all levels of experience, it will be a fun day, set in a chilled out relaxed environment.
This workshop can be a one-off day, or as an introduction to further workshops I will be running. This will be based on traditional painting techniques from old masters and some contemporary approaches applied to the genre. As well as covering a lot of ground, equally the focus will be on developing a solid understanding of colour theory, tonal relationships, proportion and composition. Progressing to use these ideas to develop believable 3d forms and a 2d surface.

All materials supplied.
Practical painting techniques including:
- Creating an underpainting/grisaille and why.
- Layering of oil paint - it’s not that scary
- Warm and cool colour relationships
- Colour mixing and brush techniques.
Participants will work from supplied portrait reference images and all materials will be supplied.
You are more than welcome to bring your own paints and brushes, primed canvas of a certain size will be supplied. Though this workshop is based around oil painting, the ideas covered can be applied to all painting mediums and brief discussions about these can take place.
I’m happy if someone would prefer/want to use acrylic for the day but they will need to bring their own paint. The underpainting exercise will involve a limited palette of acrylic paint only which will be supplied.
