Mikhail Tatarnikov, conductor for the APO’s “Pathetique” concert on 27 June will be our guest. He is the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg. Mikhail has gleaned a vast array of experience from being in high demand at the top opera houses in the world, such as Teatro alla Scala Milan, Bayerische Staatsoper, La Monnaie Brussels, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Theater an der Wien, Latvian National Opera, Bergen Opera, Komische Oper Berlin and the Mariinsky Theatre. Mikhail conducted the first ever performance of Britten’s Billy Budd in Russia, at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.

In past seasons, Mikhail has conducted Tcherniakov’s new production of The Snow Maiden at Opéra de Paris, Jürgen Flynn’s new production of Manon Lescaut at Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and revivals of Prince Igor at Staatsoper Hamburg and Vec Makropulos at San Francisco Opera.

Recent highlights include a tour of gala concerts with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov with performances in Japan, China, Seoul, Australia and New Zealand. Mikhail also conducted a new production of The Demon at Barcelona’s Liceu directed by Dmitry Bertman, amongst numerous ballet and opera productions at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. In addition, Mikhail made his Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra debut last season, and conducted concert performances of Samson et Dalila at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with Roberto Alagna and Orchestre National de France, and a new production of Boris Godunov at Opéra de Monte-Carlo.

On the concert platform, Mikhail has conducted the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National du Radio France, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre national d’Ile de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestra Filharmonica di Bologna, Danish National Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Novosibirsk Philharmonic, St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, Moscow House of Music, Russian National Orchestra and the St Petersburg Philharmonic Society.

Mikhail studied at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. After graduating in 2003, he subsequently continued his studies at the Faculty of Opera and Symphonic Conducting (under Alexander Polishchuk).

Mikhail works with renowned soloists including Anna Netrebko, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Roberto Alagna, Neil Shicoff, Vilde Frang, Gautier Capucon, Renaud Capuçon, Nikolai Lugansky, Sergei Khachatryan, Boris Giltburg, Peter Donohoe, Kristine Opolais and Vadim Repin.
There will be music and a light lunch.
