'EMBRACE of the SERPENT' (M)
FRIDAY 26th July showing at 10-30am / 5-30pm / 8-15pm This films gets 5 out 5 and 10 out of 10 on every critic website 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
"Embrace of the Serpent" is an amazing exercise in psychedelia. It concerns two generations of German scientists who traverse the Amazonian wilderness with the same medicine man. It is beautifully shot in black and white, then for the climax it switches to colour. It is on the level with Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain" once it reaches that point. It is an absolutely beautiful and visceral experience, and you should watch it in the highest definition you possibly can...which of course you can do at FLICKS with it's new laser projector...this film is a 'find' in the world of cinema and is not to be missed, so hopefully you will be able to catch one of the screenings during the day.

"An epic journey told with both stunning scope and meticulous detail. Some of the sequences here are breathtaking and unlike anything I have ever seen before.
"Embrace of the Serpent is a breathtakingly gorgeous Oscar-nominated drama that caresses your eyes with its visuals as it bangs you over the head with its message"
"A film that shoots for the moon and lands with ease, grace and nuance; a landing so perfect it infuses the viewer with a love of cinema and its possibilities."
"Form merges magically with content in this intuitively hypnotic and sensory treatise on colonialism in the deeps of the Amazon in the early decades of the 20th century"
"An epic journey told with both stunning scope and meticulous detail. Some of the sequences here are breathtaking and unlike anything I have ever seen before.
