Queenstown Writers Festival Presents: Flash Fiction Workshop with Iona Winter

Iona Winter will facilitate a workshop on how to write flash fiction. Flash Fiction can be defined in many ways, but is often subject to a word count of between 100 - 1000 words. The genre historically included forms such as short stories, prose-poetry, lyrics, narratives, and folklore. Iona will provide an experiential two hours that will encourage participants to think outside the square. A must for anyone interested in writing in shorter forms.

Iona Winter (Waitaha) lives in Ōkāhau Warrington, Ōtepoti Dunedin. Widely published and anthologised, she writes in hybrid forms that explore the spaces between poetry and prose. Her debut collection then the wind came was published in 2018 (Steele Roberts). An MCW (AUT) graduate, Iona has been shortlisted with The Best Small Fictions (USA 2019), and the Bath Novella-in-Flash Award (UK 2018). In 2016 she was awarded the Headland Frontier Prize (NZ), and has performed her work at numerous literary events. Iona has recently completed a poetry manuscript, and is preparing for a multi-media exhibition with her whānau.
