Every first Tuesday of the month, one of our curators unravels the stories behind a single iconic artwork currently on display at the Gallery. In May, Senior Curator, International Art Mary Kisler will discuss "La Place, Avignon" (1906) by Frances Hodgkins. This watercolour painting is on loan from a private collector.
Every first Tuesday of the month, one of our curators unravels the stories behind a single iconic artwork currently on display at the Gallery. In June, Curator, Māori Art Nigel Borell will tell you more about He 'Tangata, He Tangata' (1956) by Arnold Manaaki Wilson, the first Māori honours graduate in sculpture from Auckland's Elam School of Fine Arts and one of the founding members of the Gallery's Māori Advisory Group. 'He Tangata, He Tangata' is part of the exhibition 'Radical Beginnings'.
