A Waitaki Arts Festival Event: Author’s Talk With Emma Neale.
In this talk the author will discuss the life and works of Janet Frame. Frame’s development as an acclaimed writer will be examined against her life and times together with the significant influences that helped shape her literary direction.
Emma Neale is a New Zealand novelist and poet. Emma Neale’s first work was published in 1998 and her writing has been featured extensively in magazines, newspapers and journals, and several anthologies.
She is the author of 6 novels and 6 collections of poetry. As an editor she has worked on a number of publications and has been editor of Landfall since 2017. Her most recent collection of poetry, To the Occupant, was published in July this year.
Emma Neale’s work has been awarded or nominated for several literary prizes:
- Dublin International Literary Award (2017)
- Ockham New Zealand Book Awards (2016 and 2017)
- Kathleen Grattan Award for poetry (2011)
- Takahe Poetry Competition, first place for the poem ‘Well’ (2008)
- New Zealand Society of Authors Janet Frame Memorial Award for Literature (2008)
