Womad New Zealand

With one foot on the stage and the other on the road, prolific musician Delaney Davidson takes us on a world journey in Ship of Dreams.

Described as “country-noir” and “gothic Americana”, Delaney uses his compelling live music as the soundtrack to his own evocative short films, shot in Bavaria, Serbia, the Black Forest, Amsterdam, New Zealand and the swamps of England.

His music and movies transport us into the flickering realm of Grimm’s fairy tales, David Lynch, expressionist cinema, forgotten values and lost stories.

All this from a serial collaborator, whose latest spooky voyage has been helped by radical global artists in theatre, film and photography. Over the years, his musical alliances have included Tami Neilson, Marlon Williams and Barry Saunders.

A three-times winner of the APRA New Zealand Country Music Song of The Year, Delaney was named Voodoo Rhythm One Man Band World Champion in 2011 and Saddest Song World Champion in 2010.
