The Christchurch Blues Foundation, are proud to present Mikaela Dewar. Door tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non members

Mikaela’s music swings between blues, gypsy, jazz, country and folk. She has drawn comparisons to Norah Jones, Billie Holiday and Eva Cassidy.

Born in Christchurch, Mikaela has been playing music practically her whole life. After winning the New Zealand Gold Guitar Award she moved to Tamworth, Australia and toured New South Wales extensively with bands “Electric Barnyard” and “Heartland”. Electric Barnyard’s first gig was supporting Keith Urban.

After leaving Tamworth she moved to Levelland, Texas to study music at the renowned South Plains College. She was the South Plains College Female Songwriter of the Year twice. It was in Texas that she really honed her craft playing lots of gigs and it was where she discovered jazz. This time became very influential on her writing and singing style.

Mikaela then spent 3 years in London playing clubs and travelling Europe; moving to Nashville in 2008, where she recorded 2 albums with her brilliant producer Don Kerce. Mikaela also spent almost 2 years writing and playing shows in the live music capital of the world, Austin, Texas, where she performed with legendary guitar player Tommy Emmanuel. See Mikaela performing with Tommy here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sMcFZYwO7o

For this show Mikaela will be joined by the incredible Phil Doublet on guitar. You can expect lots of her original music (check it out at http://www.mikaeladewar.com/music/) as well as some of her favourite blues covers.
