It's not every day you get to tuck into a traditional hāngī right in the heart of Ōtautahi, so get the whānau ready for an awesome day out!
This is a chance to learn all about hāngī through an event that embodies whanaungatanga (family togetherness) and manaakitanga (hospitality and kindness).
Head along throughout the day to see the team from Tuahiwi – led by hāngī master Grenville Pitama – bless, prepare and cook the kai, traditional hāngī styles... he's been doing it since he was nine! The hāngī will go into the ground around midday and will be closely monitored until it gets lifted around 5:00pm, for our 5:30pm and 6:00pm servings of authentic Māori kai. Yum!
Organised by Matapopore and Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga, the hāngī will cater for 1,000 people — so if you and the crew are keen for some kai (food), grab your tickets today!
Come along to watch and learn. Delicious kai is just part of the fun...
