Melody – Rhythm – New York City.

We are delighted to present a special night of music performed by the Maggie Gould and Nanny Assis Band.

Maggie Gould, returns home from New York to tour New Zealand. Her extensive portfolio includes performances with the Orpheus Choir, the NZ Symphony Orchestra, and winning parts in musical theatre shows, Cats and Follies Berger. She has had sold out shows at the Jazz Forum New York.

Maggie with Nanny Assis, musical director, has just released her CD Todo Amor at the Blue Note Club New York. She has her inspiration from artist such as, Ella Fitzgerald, Astrid Gilberto, Elaine Elias, Ivan Lins and Chet Baker. The LA Times stated, “Maggie Gould was made for Bossa Nova, she tells stories and enchants her audiences.”

She has toured extensively with Nanny Assis including places like Rome’s Casa del Jazz Festival, Venice to London clubs, New York’s Blue Note Club and Vitello’s Jazz Club LA. Maggie moves easily into Brazilian Jazz which she will feature for us with the gifted vocalist/percussionist/guitarist Nanny Assis. One of Maggie’s great highlights was also working with music master Russ Garcia.

Nanny Assis, Vocals, Guitar, Percussion. From the state of Bahia, Brazil, Nanny is known as the Master of Brazilian Jazz. He’s an artist that anybody who sees him performing immediately feels that music for him is more than just a career. It’s the way he translates rhythm and notes into pure essence and his ability to make any kind of music sound smooth and authentic.

Kevin Field, Piano. One of New Zealand’s finest Jazz musicians Kevin has performed concerts in the UK, USA, and Australia. He has released his own albums including a recent release called ‘The A List,’ that was recorded in New York with top international musicians. He has featured on many albums as sideman including Nathan Haines, Catlin Smith, Whirimako Black and also the NZ Symphony Orchestra.

Kevin’s approach to jazz harmony is probably the most recognizable element to his playing and compositions. He is also a senior lecturer in Jazz Studies at the University of Auckland and holds a doctorate in musical arts, specialising in advanced jazz harmony.

Ron Samsom, Drums. Originally from Canada Ron has lived in Auckland since 2003. He has collaborated with top international jazz artists and has been the coordinator for the Jazz Studies Programme at the University of Auckland. The word diversity best describes Ron’s approach to improvisational based music and a keen interest in many genres has led to an explorative musical career. We gladly welcome back Ron to the Kerikeri Jazz Club.

Let’s celebrate the Christmas season with a special night of international music.
