Beginner’s Clay with Julie Cromwell.

This one day class is ideal for people who want to begin working with clay. Ceramicist Julie Cromwell will introduce two different types of clay – grogged and smooth – and show you how to prepare and use them. You will explore different hand working methods and joining techniques, use the slab roller and moulds, or opt for hand building construction methods.

At the end, you can colour your work using stains. Julie will also discuss good studio practice, how to look after your work and information about the Quarry’s ceramic facilities. There is an hour’s break for lunch – bring your own.

14 yrs and over.
$70.00 (includes 2.5 kilo of clay and the firing of 2 pieces).

Once you’ve done this course, then you will be well equipped to join our Casual Clay days: Monday, 1.00pm – 9.00pm and Tuesday, 9.00am – 9.00pm, ($5 per class). Or consider our more advanced courses, offered periodically: Ceramic wheel work (throwing); Sculpture – advanced hand-building techniques; Press moulding and slip casting.

Payment for these classes is by credit card or internet banking when you book. If you really need to pay by cash or EFTPOS please come into Quarry Arts to make your booking.
