Antarctic Spirit embodies the many facets of our interest in Antarctica. New Zealand has had a long love affair with the ice continent. It has inspired us to be pioneers, explorers, researchers and artist.

Organ, Brass and Voices unite in a fanfare of music to commemorate the diamond jubilee of the signing of the International Antarctic Treaty and 100 years since the birth of Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the signatories of the treaty.

The Christchurch City Choir, led by Dr John Linker, and Southern Cross Brass, directed by Howard Taylor present a programme of music and imagery by predominantly New Zealand composers and artists many of who, like our MC Patrick Shepherd, have a connection to Antarctica.

Soprano, Helen Charlton and the Cathedral Choristers will join Christchurch City Choir for “Lullabies” by Anthony Ritchie. Southern Cross Brass will play music by Dean Goffin and Findall Hill and join the choir for newly commissioned music by Dwayne Bloomfield.

If you have a love for the ice continent, you will want to be at Antarctic Spirit. Thank you to The Antarctic Office for all their support!
