The Renaissance Singers under Christine Archer-Lockwood present a rare opportunity - an historical journey tracing the development of canticles, songs written for chapel, church and cathedral, over the last 1000 years.
From Gregorian chants through to music derived from jazz, the choir traces the manner in which the various composers of the day have sought to create new sounds for classical themes that run through the liturgy. Much of the music was considered the very best of the time with the churches hiring the most exemplary of composers.
The consequence is exquisite, breath-taking music with beautiful harmonies sung unaccompanied with the finesse and intensity that fans of the Renaissance Singers have come to expect. There will be an opportunity for the audience to mix and mingle with the choir afterwards in the hall.
